YUNI - FEATURED FRIEND

Salam!

Yuni is in lime green!

She wore this for her brother's reception ceremony.

She wore silk at the bottom and chifffon silk at the top.

In her words : "I wore it because it feels comfortable n simple n yet sexy n glamorous. N the theme and the setup for the ceremony pon relax n simple. :D "

Tips :

I say always be comfortable in whatever you wear, escpecially during events! I think most hijabis can pull off the pario bottom (someone got to teach me how to tie it nicely like yunie!). Chiffons are also naturally transparent so make sure make sure you wear something to cover yourself under the chiffon.

Yuni's attire reminds me of lemon meringue! YUM!

RUSY - FEATURED FRIEND

Salam!

RUSY, we can never get enough!

Her tips :

"spice it up with belts, necklace and heels. In this look, I stick to basic colours ie. black and grey but I go a little bit wild with the accessories. "

She also mentioned bright colours are good with 'dull' outfits!

I particularly love this look because of the high (long) skirt with that high-waisted belt!

Tinggi rupa kamu rusy :p

i really think I could take her look and just put it on me :) hehe. love!

MUN - FEATURED FRIEND

Salam!

This is MUN, also one of the funkiest people we both know. She have got moves and brain to back it all up. Check out her dinner look!

In her words, she wore this to the RMO Society Ball:

" the dress at Forever New ($180) with a cotton-on shirt inside ($10) and I pinned a flower onto the scarf (Diva)."

Her tips :

"I find Cotton-On shirts very cheap, durable and come in so many colours - you can use them with a lot of the outfits. Because the t-shirt is quite fitting with a round neck line, it's good to be used as the underlayer for many of those sleeveless tops and dresses to cover up properly:) I have about 30 cotton-on shirts, some colours such as white, black, beige and brown go with so many outfits that I have duplicates of them :)"

I particularly love the sequins on the chest area, could just skip necklaces with that look!

rubyred

Salam!

I wore this to Malam Gemilang once, and I think the picture looks amazing (I probably should promote the amazing photographer(s) here and ask for their permission but they're nice so they wont bite :) Future! I'll make them take moreeee )

I wore :

1. Traditional ruby red kebaya, with laced top and satin bottom.
2. White pearls (note : we need long ones)
3. My love, the heels, Stuart Weitzman ruby red collection.

Tips :
At formal dinners, get away with wearing pearls! For cheaper options, there are knock offs at shopping centres. Mikimotos are expensive. Habib too. (I know they're pretty!). Sabah and Phillipine pearls are authentic and good for money!

I saw a brownish cream pearl once. Oogled over it for the longest time.

fiesta

Salam !

This is me at FIESTA MALAYSIA few fiestas ago ;)

I was wearing :

1. Tom Abang Saufi's shawl (it is interchangeable, I wore purple out instead of the hot pink inside). She is a Malaysian designer and this particular design was SMART ! pretty too :)
I messaged her (before all this project started) and she said she is working on a website soon! Can't wait. Found some of her other designs on the web.

2. Double layered pink purple hijab!

3. Printed black/white kebarung (its my sisters ;)).

4. The "Melanau" boys that I taught to perform at the Malaysian festival in Melbourne!

Tips :
Wear white with bright colours!

I should take more "just by myself" pictures huh?

YUNI - Featured Friend

Salam!

This is Yuni, a friend I met in Melbourne. She is tall and could get away with being a model, actually. But she opt to be a super amazing shooter in netball instead. hehe. I loved your blue toned long skirt outing the other day, picture?

She is wearing :

1. It's called baju kimono style.. very simple and comfy... (I have to ask her where she specifically bought it)
2. Super chunky necklace, great with whites

Her tips :

Wear high waist pants/jeans/skirts (if you have "spare tyre") such a good do for a relaxing weekend out.

I think i have a similar top, I bought it from ECLIPSE years ago. If I find a picture, I'll post it up ! When you wear white, you could get away with colourful accessories, and bright hijabs. Post us some pictures if you've tried!

SERI - FEATURED FRIEND

Salam!

Here is Seri, my senior back in high school. Since i know her from school days until now, she always dress fashionably and stylish. Here is how she dressed for her school annual hi tea. The theme was 'traditional' so she chose to wear saree, the Indian female traditional dress.

Here what she wore:

1. Chiffon saree in pink (her favorite color!) with green border bought at Ali Store, Kajang. (she got the inner blouse or tailored at an Indian man (he is from India) recommended by Ali Store personnale)

2. Accessories: wore her own collection necklace on the head and diamante sticker on the hands.

Her tips:

1. Ask the tailor to make the blouse longer than the usual choli to cover your hands, chest and stomach.

2. Go and try normal and not so glamour tailors ut there because they can be promising too!

I bet she is the hottest teacher in her school. dont you think so?

i want saree too but they are so expensive! T__T

jubahlike

Salam!

This is actually mama's idea cause I was travelling to Syria (here).

I wore:
1. The pink "jc" material, is very soft so if you decide to have it tailor-made, make sure its not "tight". I had it done with one bigger size, but body-cut. Jubah-like! MuiMui at Bazaar.
2. Striped sweater from Sussan
3. Hot pink hijab
4. Grey pashmina (cause it was cold) to match with certain greys in my sweater

It is clearer here, the hooded pink jubahlike attire. Wore it here with :

1. Ice cream pistachio/vanilla
2. One satisfied tummy :)

Tips :

If you wear pastel colour, try see if you could make it funner with a brighter colour hijab. You have to have to match whatever you wear with your skin tone. I am not a pink person, but I think it matches with most girls.

No, I am not a bimbo. (I know who is hehe :p)

2. Light gold skirt (Forever new),

3. Wet-look tights (Supre),

4. Pearl necklace (Diva),

5. Brown Studded Heels (Siren)

Her Tips:

Weekend outing!

Salam!

Here is one of my look when I'm out having brunch or coffee with my friends.

I wore this dress for a very casual brunch at IKEA Mutiara Damansara. So I had to keep my look very minimal because you do not want to be overdressed to a place where the crowd only put on their sweat shirt and shorts only.

For this casual outing I had on me:

1. Plain teal dress from Nichi

2. Esprit denim jeans in blue

3. Grey ballerina shoe from Crocs

4. Printed chiffon scarf in yellow from my very own EL.humaira (EL.humaira collections are made by me!)

Tips:

Do not afraid to play with the color. Sometimes, contrast color can look great too! Wear your printed bright scarf with your plain clothes as one of your accessories!

-DINA-

Tulle Lace

Salam!

let's wear lace for hari raya! This was my baju raya some years ago. People always think lace for engagement party, wedding or any formal functions only. But don't worry because if you can pull it off you will look good and you will not look like you are overdressed.

For this modern baju kurung, i bought the material at Jakel and used satin silk in apple green and pair it with orange tulle lace. I asked the tailor to make a short top for me with the mermaid skirt. Then i had the ruffles for the inner sleeve and slit the outer sleeve up until my elbow.
So together with the clothes, i wore:
1. Same tone orange tudung bawal
2. Beads bracelet in pink from Cotton On (i know i love bargain!!)
3. Diamante heels from Charles& Keith
Tips:
1. For ruffles, used flowy and soft material like chiffon silk.
2.Wear your lace dress to cool places only because you will get sweat easily in hot and humid weather like Malaysia.

bollywood

Salam!

I went for picnic at Royal Botanical Garden with friends and ducks and lotsa labelled plants and thought because the day was sunny, I should wear blueeeee (cause I felt like it)!

I wore :

1. Dress from ISHKA, Chadstone (it is cotton, cooling and i totally love the prints!)
2. Comfy black pants from Marks and Spencer, Singapore.
3. No shoes (while playing monkey ball!).
4. Oh turquoise hijab bought in Kelantan I think.

I also brought along :

1. my very very very pretty umbrella, which I bought in Sydney at a Chinese shop (its actually sold in Victorian-vintage small shops in Melbourne too)
2. My stainless steel silver bangle, from mama
3. My sister's mixed bangles (it is literally an Indian culture, have you seen them wear 20 on their wrists?)
4. Some fun :)

Tips :
When you buy a printed dress, eep everything else simple, and pop up the motif through colours of your hijab!

I want to go picnic again! Wonder if there's another colour of that printed top in ISHKA. hm.

swim

Salam!

I can swim too :)

I love to swim! And go to the beach or pool and snorkel or lie down at the beach. Recently I had the pleasure to learn how to dive! wohooo .

This swimming suit is :

1. Actually a burqini, from Ahiida, I bought it years ago for AUD$180! It comes in many designs, and UV Protection for your skin.

I've brought it with me - swimming with the dolphins and walrus, Water Theme Parks in Gold Coast, my own apartment's pool, snorkeling and diving in Sabah and lots and lots of random pools.

The limitation is only in your mind.

p/s: don't call me flashman. That's flash-woman to you! superheroooooooo

Can hijabi wear short dresses?

Salam!

I know most hijabi out there have short dresses to be worn with pants and leggings right? This is actually one of my favourite styles because I always have a thing with cute short dresses. Although they are short, that does not means we, hijabi cannot wear them. Just mix and match with pants, legging or wear them with your boots and yeayyy!! You are all covered up! For those who still hesitate to wear short dresses, give it a try soon!

Owh I love this dress very very much. Wore this to my friend’s birthday at some cool cafĂ© (I forget the name! hehe). The material is Lycra so it drapes beautifully. And yes… I love printed dresses like this very very very much! It suits my personality and it is so DINA!

Let’s see what I wore that night

1. Knee-length dress from Supre paired with black legging

2. Soft pink tudung bawal (the material is actually voile)

3. Diana Ferrari calf length high heel boots in brown leather (bought at 50% less!! Luv it!!)

4. Pink pearl necklace from Diva and some cheap beads bangles from Cotton On!

Tips:

1. Printed from top to toe is BIG NO NO! You do not want to look like a rose garden, don’t you? So always pair up plain and printed stuff. If you have all plain from top to toe, do accessorize!

2. Know where you go and the crowd you are going to hit!

3. For hot places like Kuala Lumpur, it is not advisable to wear boot higher than your ankle. So you can opt for your normal shoe or ankle lenght boot and pair it with same color sock. See, you got your boot look already!

3. Last but not least, LESS IS MORE BUT NOTHING MEANS NOTHING! If you feel like you are over accessorize, take off one of your accessories and you are ready to go. But if you have nothing, that means you have NOTHING! Nothing cannot be more because it is nothing there!

So you got it? Dresses are meant for us hijabi, too!

RUSY - Featured Friend

Salam!

This is the ever so glamorous, RUSY! We met in Melbourne, involved in same group+work+community+friends! We had lots of fun together, she is as bold and marvellous as she dresses!

She is wearing :

1. Black jumpsuit (Sportsgirl),

2. Black inner (Supre),

3.studded belt (Supre),

4. Necklace (Diva) and

5.Grey heels (Scooter),

6. Gradient black/grey rectangular scarf aka selendang (no brand)

Her tips :

Jumpsuit are the most comfortable thing ever! Seriously, I am considering jumpsuits as Jalan-TAR-scarf-hunting-session at the moment. Alright, I'll think again about that.

There are many types of jumpsuits, pick one that suits your body! You dress your body, not the other way around :).

I like bold fashion, but not too over-rated. That is why I go for black jumpsuit and spice it up with belts, necklace and heels. In this look, I stick to basic colours ie. black and grey but I go a little bit wild with the accessories. I particularly love the necklace because it gives a "slimming" effect (a mystery I can't solve).

Gosh not everyone can pull off jumpsuits. It looks so good RUSY! (cintaku pada heels mu terjatuh sebentar)

The last time I wore "jumpsuit" I was a teenager with my father's raggedy, oversized old orange uniform for gardening. Wonder if I should try it again!

SYIRA - Featured Friend

Salam!

This is Dina's beloved sister-in-law, Syira. This was her look for her department dinner at Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam last month. She was very excited about the dinner that she spent a lot just for the night and been talking and planning for the night way months before the event! She even booked me to do her make up and keep reminding me for not making plans on the day so i could do her make up.Glad she loved my work for the make up.(sorry the photo not so clear!)

Being a young and career mother to three boys is not an easy job. I adore her for taking care of the family especially the boys, my cute naughty and adorable nephews while she has a full time demanding job. So she does not have all the time in the world to dress up all the time. You might see her in her very simple style. So when she told me she wanted to dress up and having fun that night i felt so excited! Of course i will make u look good sis!

So here what she wore that night:

1. Infinity dress from Envee, MidValley Megamall.

2.Unknown long-sleeve inner t-shirt

3. 3-tone (purple, deep purple and pink) long hijaab definitely from my EL.humaira collection (she is one of my most loyal customer!)

4.Studded purple high-heels form Primavera

5. Pearls necklace and brooch to accessorise the dress and clutch (i don't know where she bought the stuff..sorry!)

Tips from her look:

1. Spend your money wisely: invest in infinity dress is a good idea so you can wear them for many many times with different style without people notice that it actually come from the same piece of dress! All you need is to tie the dress differently accessorise with brooches or scarf.

2. Get multicolor hijaab: so you can mix and match the hijaab with multiple dresses and looks. No point buying 1 hijaab that you can only wear one dress only.

3. Eye makeup: for all hijaabi, do sharpen your eyes with deep eye makeup and colored lense! Then you are ready to go!

I will borrow her dress soon and show you how to wear them differently here!

colourful stripes

Salam!

This is how I ended up having this distracting, clown-looking, coloured sweater (+hoodie).

We (Mama and Y) were at Rip Curl at Swanston St and I said, who on earth would be in their right mind would want to walk around this colourful.

That is a true story by the way.

Then the Mama said oh that's nice, bought it for me and tadaaaaaaaaa because "you" don't wanna waste "your" mama's $, "you" ended up using it.. to Tulips festival!

To try and not distract (further) attention:

1. The hooded sweater from RIPCURL is matched with,
2. Skin-coloured hijab and
3. VERY VERY (ONE OF MY VERY VERY FAVOURITE) comfortable slack from Adidas.
4. And skin-coloured sandals from Crocs!
5. That white sling bag was bought in Indonesia, costing my purse only RM$4.

Tips :

If you can get away being colourful, go for it. Be careful cause you might look like a clown. Tone it down!

I am already a clown, its allright by me !

AYEP - Featured Friend

Salam !

We thought it'd be fun to have our (other) friends join in the fun !

This is Ayep. Yaya's high-school mate. We are loving the belt and bangles yep!

She is wearing, in her own words :

1. Abstract shawl bought at Maju Junction for RM10 only!
2. Zara flowery blouse, bat-wing like, I'm sooo in love with flowery design nowadays =)
3. Brown Belt from F21
4. Jeans like Legging from Zara, quit thick and comfy love it!
5. Blue Vincii shoes, quite old, the sole dah tercabut but ayep suka sebab comfortable hehe
6. Bracelet from F21, one of my fav actually and I lost it like last month I think, that time I was tying on clothes at Midvalley, I took it off ( I don't remember which shop cause I went to so many that day) I wanted to buy the same bracelet again but sold out dah =(

If one of yous find the bracelets, do notify us!

You like?

polka dot

Salam!

This is an INNAI dress, bought by our friend Dee for Y's graduation 2009 at Monash University, Melbourne.

Items worn :

1. Innai dress.
2. Double later hijab (maybe one day I will tell you how I came about wearing two of them), coloured peach and beaded pink to match the motives on the dress
3. Graduation Robe sponsored by Monash University Melbourne (rented, actually)
4. Black laced heels (I thought it'd match the robe!) Ezra Angiolini

The dress is unforgiving, but very comfortable. So i borrowed mama's inner skirt. And drama solved.

And because the dress was a little pricey for me, I intend to wear it again and again till its worn out! Wore it to a friend's wedding in Sabah last January.

Worn with :
1. Double layered beaded purple scarf. Both dark because didn't want to have too much going on.
2. To accessorize, I wore a huge gold (Bvlgari inspired design) pendant. Bought by mama cause I am broke.

Tips :

Unless you're Paris Hilton, wear your pricey dress to functions (preferably not around the same group of friends. Not that they would mind if they are true friends ;)). Don't go crazy if you can't afford it. You can always change the look and accessorize right?

Its comfortable. If I had money, I'd wear these type of dress everyday (and get away with "putting an effort" with my choice of clothing).

-YAYA-

let's have fun!

Salam!

Welcome dina and yaya!

This blog was inspired by the thought we could share our ideas on what we like and not like of those who choose to wear hijabs.

(Well actually it was just from one call cause yaya needed a favour with sewing her little hijab from dina and their conversation turned into "WOULDN'T IT BE FUN IF..?")

This blog is in no mean demonstrating neither the fact that we are pious or good just because we choose to cover up nor dismissing the fact that we have chosen to follow one of the many commandments of Allah s.w.t.

We hope to share this with each other, our friends and those who are thinking of wearing hijab in the future! If you don't like what you see, please, feel free to never visit us ever again. But if you do want to contribute, drop us a comment and tell us what you like :)

Most importantly, we hope to have SUPER DUPER FUN in sharing our random thoughts on the so called "fashion world" *slap self*.

YaYa's idea of fashion is comfortable slacks, cotton long sleeved-shirts and whatever she can grab that she doesn't have to iron. However, she has her "I feel like dressing up today! Which ones are the easiest to wear?". She has a crazy thing over pretty heels though.

Dina's idea of fashion is whatever she wears walking down the street and you say to yourself 'i wouldn't dare putting that on' but she, on the other hand looks greeeaat! She loves bright, colorful and printed tops, wearing jeans most of the time and dress however she like without the care for the world's opinion - as long as she feels good, comfortable and confident with herself. Owh but don't be surprised if you see her walking in her black 'tudung sarung' and abaya once in a while cos she has her i do not want to dress up today and people won't notice her at all!

Remember to always be comfortable with who you are, and dress whatever you feel like.
